The C.R.E.W. 29 Story

Brevard County boasts some of the most technologically advanced opportunities in the country with Titusville being home to many of those who helped Americans get to the moon. However, alongside the blessed, live those most in need. Sixteen percent of the population of Titusville lives in poverty.

In 2020, when the country shut down and most people stayed at home, there were those who had no home to retreat to. Because of the shutdown, those who had no home were suddenly unable to receive food from restaurants, pantries, and other organizations. As winter set in, these same individuals were unable to find a shelter. One evening while many homeless sat at Sand Point Park in Titusville, news spread that the only remaining cold night shelter wasn't going to be open for the winter. Royce "Scooter" Morrison, a local pastor was helping at the park that night. He saw the despair and fear on the faces of those who would have no shelter from the cold.

The effects of Covid had hit Scooter Morrison's church hard and there was less than $100 in the bank. He was contemplating shutting the church down for lack of funds to even keep the lights on. That night he decided to help those most in need in the community and opened the doors of his church located at the Titusville Civic Center.

For days, every 15 minutes people in the community dropped off food, clothing, money, pillows, blankets, and other items for the homeless. This generosity was blessed and for two years now the cold night shelter has been open.

The need continues to grow. To help bridge the gap, Scooter Morrison has decided to start C.R.E.W. 29 as an outreach program of LifePointe Ministries. The CREW is comprised of individual volunteers from all walks of life and from over 10 different churches in the area.

The need in the community is great and requires a weekly gathering of the volunteers. The Thursday Table was organized shortly after the opening of the cold night shelter to help the community with this need. Every Thursday our C.R.E.W. 29 volunteers run showers, offer clothing in our warehouse, help with social needs, provide a warm meal, haircuts, live music, and a chance to get

assistance with spiritual needs.
